There are four aspects of life that require attention for optimising our mental and emotional health. If any one of these areas of our lives has difficulties, then problems may arise in the other areas of our lives. Similarly, when we make improvements in any one area, it will positively affect the other areas. These four aspects of life are placed in a particular order and each one is very important.
Eating healthy, nutritious food and using natural products on our skin is vital for optimal health. But, food is more than what we put in or on our bodies. There are four fundamental aspects of our lives and these are what we call "Primary Foods.” These are foods that fuel and feed us, but we don't eat them.
Each one can fill your soul and satisfy your hunger for life! When these four “Primary Foods” are balanced, their benefits can far outweigh secondary food. You could be eating all the quinoa and kale in the world, but if you are not nourishing yourself on a holistic level, you will not maintain a full and vibrant life.
For example, if you are in a negative relationship or hate your job, then you will be more inclined to feel stress, anxiety, or even, perhaps, depression. This can lead to more severe issues, which may lead to emotional binge eating, and the vicious cycle continues.
Physical health and vitality is the first dimension. When you are unhealthy it is hard to even think straight. Optimum nutrition and exercise are increasingly important with age and some natural nutritional supplements are very helpful.
Career and Lifestyle is where we commit most of our time during a day. Perhaps 8 hours each day are committed in this category and it is important that we are engaging in activity that gives expression to our higher values and mission. Building houses or being a mother are examples of positive expression in which our heart can be engaged.
Relationships and positive communication are the third area of life. Relating with family in the home, friends, workmates and other relationships. Our emotional life.
Spirituality is the fourth domain of life, which includes higher emotions, meaning in life, beliefs and connection with God, abiding in love.
